Shapes & Range

Draw the plan. Share it over the mesh.

Share circles, ellipses and rectangles, plus range & bearing lines (R&B), as lightweight objects across the LoRa mesh. A deliberately focused shape set — chosen so it stays predictable on the air, not to fill a menu.

LANCE inside ATAK — a shared shape (Ellipse 1) on the live map, synced over the LoRa mesh
01

A focused, predictable shape set — and growing

LANCE shares circles, ellipses/ovals and rectangles today, with more shape types arriving for the release. The set is expanded carefully and deliberately — every extra vertex is extra airtime — so each shape stays cheap and reliable on the mesh.

02

Range & bearing lines for distance awareness

Share range & bearing lines (R&B) to communicate distance, direction, standoff or coverage at a glance. Like markers and shapes, they're reconstructed as native ATAK objects on every connected client.

03

Lightweight by design

Shape and range objects stay on the order of tens of bytes over the air, with acknowledged delivery like markers. They're slightly heavier than a marker but still cheap — so a planned area graphic doesn't dominate the channel.

04

Full-colour, true to your map

Shapes carry the full 24-bit RGB colour range, so the colour you draw is the colour your team sees. Whatever you assign in ATAK is preserved across the mesh and reconstructed faithfully on every connected client — no palette limits, no surprise substitutions.

Good to knowColour coding stays intact end to end — a red no-go area or a blue boundary arrives exactly as you set it, with the full RGB range available.
FAQ

Shapes & range, answered.

Which shapes can I share?
Circles, ellipses/ovals and rectangles, plus range & bearing lines (R&B). These cover the most common field graphics while staying compact on the mesh.
Will more shapes be added?
Yes — the shape set is expanding for the release. New types are added carefully, because every additional vertex costs airtime on LoRa, so each one stays predictable and reliable on the channel.
Do shapes confirm delivery?
Yes — shape and range objects use the same acknowledgement-based delivery as markers, so you can see when they've been received.
Are shape colours preserved?
Yes. Shapes carry the full 24-bit RGB colour range, so whatever colour you assign in ATAK is preserved across the mesh and rebuilt faithfully on every connected client — no palette limits or substitutions.
